Artocarpus anisophyllus, popularly known as mentawa, is a species from the genus Artocarpus that is highly sought after in West Kalimantan. When ripe, this fruit features an easily peelable skin and deep orange flesh with a refreshingly sweet flavor. Interestingly, the fully ripe fruit boasts an exceptionally high carbohydrate content, reaching up to 92% (of its dry weight). Beyond the ripe fruit, the local community of West Kalimantan also enjoys consuming young mentawa fruits for their own uniquely distinct flavor. Additionally, the seeds of this fruit are rich in protein and can be consumed by drying them in the sun and then roasting or frying them, producing a highly savory taste.
