Mangifera pajang
Mangifera pajang, better known to the people of Borneo as bambangan (or embang), is an endemic mango species of Borneo that is highly striking due to its giant size, with individual fruits sometimes weighing up to several kilograms.
Unlike typical mangoes, this fruit features a very thick, rough, brown skin resembling a breadfruit or a large potato, which must be peeled much like skinning an orange.
Beneath its sturdy skin lies thick, bright orange, fibrous flesh that emits a very distinct, sharp aroma, offering a potent blend of sweet-and-sour flavors that is often enjoyed fresh or processed into traditional dishes like the signature Dayak sambal
